Want to Achieve Great Things? Get Jealous.

Okay, sugar! Get ready for this post to Blow. Your. Mind. I’ve had a huge breakthrough, and I’m dying to share it with you!

Ready? Here we go...

Jealousy is a POSITIVE thing.

Yeah, that’s right. I went there!

Now, I don’t want you to misunderstand me: Jealousy - when it makes you huffy and puffy and discouraged - is not what I’m talking about here. That road just leads to a brick wall of frustration. No, what I’m talking about is using that feeling of jealousy to inspire you.

We tend to admire that which we WANT to do, but don't yet possess the skill set to do… and we tend to feel jealousy when we KNOW we can achieve a similar end, but doubt our ability to contribute. In fact, my philosophy is that jealousy is proof that you are capable of doing something.  Otherwise, you wouldn't be jealous- you'd just respect and admire from afar.

So darlin’, what does that all mean?

It means that whenever you feel jealous, you need to get to work doing that thing that makes you feel jealous..

Let’s talk about what jealousy does to us for a second:

Jealousy is a form of hunger.

And just like most forms of hunger, we often mistake it for other things. But in fact, it’s just your soul telling you that there’s something more out there for you and that you are just itching to get it.

Think of it this way. When you’re hungry, you have a need- a need for nourishment and energy that will fuel and strengthen you. And when you start to feel hungry, do you just mop around and get frustrated that you haven’t eaten, or do you go to the kitchen or to your local Cheesecake Factory (a literal heaven on EARTH, lemme tell ya) and get some dang good food?? (Is anyone else craving cheesecake now, or…?) The fact is, you need to change the direction your energy is flowing in.

Do you see someone else having success in their business and crave having that success too? Then honey, that's a call to take action, not a call to sit down and shut up! Give in to the hunger/desire to act, NOT the doubt that you can’t also achieve great things.

Sounding harder than it looks? Well don’t worry, sweets- I’ve got a great format for learning how to use jealousy to your advantage! Check it out:

Super Awesome Jealousy Action Plan

  1. Feel jealous.

  2. Look through your list of things you want to build/create

  3. Pick ONE

  4. Take immediate, straightforward action on building it.

  5. Be brave and clear. Don't hesitate. Allow yourself to build it the way YOU want.

Above all, remember - just take one step for now! No need to do everything today, just take action on one thing and begin. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish once you get started with a motivator/hunger like jealousy on your side.
